The 25th Annual
Putnam County Spelling Bee

July 3 - July 13, 2025

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.

Hairspray

July 30 - August 10, 2025

Welcome to the 60's! Based on the 1988 John Waters film, Hairspray follows the story of Tracy Turnblad, an optimistic and plus-sized teenager with a passion for dancing. Despite the societal norms that favor slimmer figures, Tracy is determined to make her mark on a local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show", and promote diversity and inclusion in the process. Her journey takes her through the world of dance, civil rights, and self-acceptance. Hairspray is a feel-good celebration of individuality and the power of change. This eight-time Tony Award winner boasts big hair, bigger fun and some of the most toe-tapping good times around.
Forever Plaid

August 14 - August 24, 2025

Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols - The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo's and The Crew Cuts. Rehearing in the basement of Smudge's family's plumbing supply company, they become "Forever Plaid". On the way to their first big gig, the "Plaids" are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at that moment when their careers and lives ended that the story of Forever Plaid begins.
The Little Theatre On The Square continues to deliver year after year. This special artistic space has long been a favorite evening for my mother and me for well over 30 years. Thank you for keeping the arts alive in Central Illinois.

Production Photos from the 2024 Season
We are so fortunate to have the Little Theatre so close. I have been going to all their summer plays for several years now thanks to my daughter Lisa who gives me two flex tickets for the summer season. The talent of the singers, dancers & actors are very good. Haven't seen a bad show yet.
