The Little Theatre On The Square in Sullivan, Illinois
Founded by Guy S. Little, Jr., The Little Theatre On The Square first raised its curtain in 1957 for a performance of Brigadoon. Mr. Little ran the theatre as a commercial venture through 1978. During that time more than 175 famous stars performed on it stage including Mickey Rooney, Alan Alda, Ann Miller, Don Ameche, Betty Grable, John Carradine, Leonard Nimoy and Forrest Tucker.
In 1981, The Little Theatre On The Square began operating as a not-for-profit corporation, governed by a Board of Trustees who represent its regional market area in Central Illinois after Mr. Little moved on to pursue other ventures. Since 1981, The Little Theatre On The Square has played to well over 850,000 admissions, including over 160,000 admissions to the Theatre For Young Audiences series.
As the only Actors’ Equity Association (the labor union that represents actors and stage managers in the United States) affiliated theatre between Chicago and St. Louis, The Little Theatre On The Square draws professionals from across the country to perform on its stage.
USA Today named The Little Theatre as one of the “Top 10 Places to See the Lights Way Off Broadway” in 2005.
The Little Theatre celebrates over 60 years of bringing live theatrical performances to the prairie. In 2004, an extensive renovation project was completed offering a beautiful updated, expanded facility in which to enjoy the arts. Come spend a magical evening at the theater!
